Pedestrians

Pedestrians are one of the most vulnerable road users.

The new Highway Code changes recognise pedestrians’ lack of protection and explain how they now take greater priority when interacting with other road users.

Rules 1-35 of the Highway Code cover pedestrian safety and include guidance on crossing the road and awareness of when extra care may be needed. You can read it here The Highway Code – Rules for pedestrians (1 to 35) – Guidance – GOV.UK

The partnership delivers pedestrian training in schools to pupils in Years 3 & 4 as well as giving road safety inputs in assemblies.

We encourage all pedestrians to always be aware of their surroundings and avoid using mobile phones or wearing headphones as these can distract them, make them more vulnerable and a hazard to other road users.

We also hold engagements in the Autumn and Winter months to raise awareness of being bright and seen.
